INFORMATION FOR CONTRIBUTORS
The Journal of American‑East Asian Relations is a quarterly journal of interdisciplinary historical, cross‑cultural, and social science scholarship from all parts of the world. The scope includes diplomatic, economic, security, and cultural relations, as well as Asian‑American history. Geographical coverage includes the United States, Canada, other countries in the Americas, and East Asia, typically China, Japan, and Korea, but also the Pacific area, Australasia, Southeast Asia, and the Russian Far East.
Manuscript Submission
The Journal welcomes the submission of articles written in academic American English that are original, not previously published in English, and not concurrently submitted elsewhere. Major articles normally are 8,000 to 10,000 words, including full citation of sources in footnotes. The manuscript should be prepared according to the style sheet (downloadable below) which is based on the humanities style of the latest edition of The Chicago Manual of Style. A 150- to 200-word Abstract, at least six Keywords, and a brief author’s vita must accompany the submission. Manuscripts which the Editor-in-Chief determines possible for publication will be sent to Editorial Advisers or established scholars for blind review. If a manuscript is accepted for publication, the author will make editorial changes and supply corrected word processing file in the manner requested.
The Journal welcomes Reminiscences, Documents and Analysis, and Research Notes. It also welcomes thoughtful and considerate discussions (under 1,000 words) on significant issues; acceptance for publication is at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief and manuscript is subject to editing due to space limitations.
The Journal does not accept unsolicited Book Reviews or Review Essays.
